Copaiba oil is a powerful essential oil from South America that has traditionally been used to aid digestion and support the body’s natural response to injury or irritation. It comes from trees in the genus Copaifera which are leguminous trees, commonly found in the Amazon rainforest. When tapped, these trees secrete a sticky, viscous liquid called oleoresin. This transparent resin is then used to extract Copaiba essential oil, a powerhouse of an essential oil with many valuable properties. Copaiba oil is exceptionally rich in a special nutrient called beta caryophyllene which has been extensively studied for its ability to modulate the the body’s response to irritation. It is so high that with a value of 50% beta caryophyllene it is the highest of any known essential oil! To put it in perspective, Clove oil has the next highest level of Beta caryophyllene at 11.65-19.53%. Here’s a list of some more popular uses for Copaiba essential oil.
